In this curriculum you will explore policy instruments such as carbon pricing, regulatory and market-based approaches that can help countries spur low emissions, climate resilient development. The main objective of this curriculum is to help policymakers plan, design and implement policy instrumentsthat reduce emissions, help meet national development goals and that increase resilience to climate change. It includes e-learning, shorter learning videos as well as webinars. Specific objectives include helping participants to: Appreciate the critical role of public policy to ramp up cleaner growth and development Recognize the various policies and tools available that can reduce emissions while also delivering jobs, growth and competitiveness and other tangible social benefits-“co-benefits” Understand the potential opportunities and challenges of these policies; Learn from practical examples and success stories of how jurisdictions around the world are implementing explicit instruments, such as domestic emissions trading systems and carbon taxes. Recognize why carbon pricing is critical to turning energy use around and driving investment toward low emissions growth. Rationale behind emissions trading, how it works and key design and implementation elements Identify available policy instruments for renewable energy and energy efficiency. The courses are primarily targeted to government officials, policymakers, climate change and development practitioners and carbon market agents yet are also open to the general public.
